ISLAMABAD:
At least 16 people have been killed and 38 injured across the country in rain and flood-related incidents over the past week.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa turned out to be the worst affected province.
The NDMA, in its latest situation report covering the period from June 26 to July 2, said the casualties were caused by heavy monsoon rains, collapsed houses and flash floods.
Among the 16 victims were five men, four women and seven children, while the injured included 14 men, four women and 20 children. The authority said house collapses and flash flooding were the leading causes of death during the reporting period.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa suffered the highest human toll, recording nine deaths and 26 injuries, making it the province most severely affected by the current monsoon wave.
Punjab reported four dead and nine injured. Among the deceased are a man, a woman and two children, while the injured are three men, a woman and five children.
In Balochistan, three people were killed, including two women and a child, and three others were injured.
According to the NDMA report, no deaths or injuries were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir or Islamabad during the reporting period.
The authority said it continues to monitor the evolving climate situation as monsoon rains persist in different parts of the country.
