SC defends life security for retired judges

The Supreme Court (SC) defended on Saturday the life for life provided to its retired judges. The SC mentioned that the agreement is legal and backed by the presidential order, considering its past duties and sensitive security risks.

A Court spokesman said that the recently issued circular aims to implement established security protocols, expand the deployment of the force down beyond what the law allows and guarantee better coordination between the Apex court, the Interior Ministry and the provincial governments.

“It is not an extraordinary favor or additional privileges,” said the spokesman. “It is about aligning security with legal rights and avoiding unnecessary excessive use of state resources.”

In line with this approach, the Court also simplified the security details of the president of the president of Justice, reducing the official convoy of eight vehicles to two. This change has released a considerable number of security personnel for routine police tasks.

“The decision reflects the resolution of the Supreme Court to guarantee the prudent use of public funds while maintaining the appropriate security standards,” the court said.

The security for service judges has also been reviewed to fall within their legal rights and eliminate excessive or inconsistent deployments.

The officials added that the new framework understands a balance between institutional needs, security realities and public responsibility.

The circular, the court clarified, is of an administrative nature and reinforces the message that public resources must be used wisely, even in matters as sensitive as judicial security.
