Another 1-1 day for us, as yesterday was one of the most interesting results we’ve had. I had two unders in two separate games. One of them involved the pitching of Tarik Skubal and Trevor Rogers, who should scream below. The Tigers pounced on Rogers and at one point were up 7-0. If the game was final, we would have won that bet. Instead, the teams combined to score 19 runs, obliterating my total. Well, better than losing a heartthrob.
The Boston Red Sox have had one of the hottest stretches in the entire history of their franchise. Considering they’ve been around for over 100 years, that should put it into context. That stretch launched them from trade deadline sellers to potential buyers and, potentially, a playoff team. I really don’t know what the problem was coming into the season for Boston, or what caused the change. His pitching and hitting numbers are both solid, so perhaps it was just a matter of time before everything came together.

Today they bring out Sonny Gray, someone who probably would have brought them a big return, but who will now be the focal point of their rotation if they make the playoffs. Gray has been good for years, but this season is his best since 2023 or maybe 2019. He is 12-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. At first, he pitched better at home than away from home, but that has evened out. He has made a quality start in each of his last six away starts. He hasn’t faced the A’s this season, but overall they are 8 of 29 against him.

The A’s have one of the worst records in baseball since June 11. Reminds me a little bit of last year when they lost something like 20 of 21 games. The team isn’t that bad, but the plan for this team was never to be great this season. They are preparing for when they come to Las Vegas. There are some talented players on the roster, but they are likely to make some moves for the future in the coming days. They already called up Tommy White, one of their top picks, and he looks great so far, so they’re already starting a youth movement.

The books have Mason Barnett as the game’s starting pitcher. This will be the right-hander’s first start this season. For the year, he has a 4.74 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP. The A’s have used him in a variety of ways out of the bullpen this year. He has some saves; he also pitched four innings in one outing. He has struggled in July, allowing 11 earned runs in 9.1 innings, and the A’s have lost every game in which he has appeared.

Tonight should be no different; The Red Sox are clearly the better team in this game and they definitely have the better pitcher. Boston has the best ERA in baseball and the A’s have the worst bullpen in baseball. Telling you to take a team at -185 isn’t exactly hard to do, so I’ll tell you the racing line looks better. The Red Sox have only been in 23 one-run games, and the A’s have been in only 29. Give me the Red Sox run line.
