- SpaceXAI just released a Grok add-in for Excel
- However, OpenAI, Anthropic and others have already beaten Grok.
- The latest Grok 4.5 model is said to be an Excel genius
SpaceXAI (formerly xAI) launched Grok for Excel as an add-on that seeks to place Grok’s conversational AI capabilities within a side panel to help with formulas, charts, analysis, and more.
Although the plugin is technically free, it requires a paid account to use the features, and only the SuperGrok, SuperGrok Heavy, and Business/Enterprise plans are capable of handling tasks within the plugin.
SpaceXAI also refers to the plugin as a “free” Microsoft Marketplace tool, loosely implying that it is free to use despite current account limitations.
Grok now also gets an Excel add-in
“It describes the result and Grok handles the syntax: averaging, sorting and filling like normal edits in the formula bar,” the company wrote in a post announcing the new tool.
Grok for Excel is compatible with Excel 2019 or later on Mac, as well as M365 and web versions, and joins similar add-ins for Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. All Office add-ins promise to interact with documents, understand data, and compose new content, but there are no standalone agency features like sending an email in Outlook.
Realistically, SpaceXAI is just the latest company to recognize that individual sectors need support for specific roles, with finance emerging as one of the priorities. OpenAI already has ChatGPT for Excel, Anthropic has Claude for Excel, and of course Microsoft has its own Copilot plugin for paid plans.
The news comes days after the company launched its latest Grok 4.5 model. “Grok Build is capable of building complex Excel models that involve research from the web, using multi-sheet formulas, and even leaving sticky notes or notes for future reference,” the company wrote.
SpaceXAI also praised the model’s capabilities in Word and PowerPoint.
