Crystal Dynamics has said that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is connected to your Tomb Raider survivor trilogy in terms of gameplay and narrative.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest 2026, game director Raúl Siqueira and Chief experience officer Jeff Adams talked about what the studio calls a “reimagining” of the original 1996 game.
While Legacy of Atlantis may look different, with a new actress for Lara Croft in Alix Wilton Regan, and although the story premiered 30 years ago, Siqueira confirmed that the Survivor The trilogy is tied to the next game.
“Absolutely,” Siqueira responded when asked if they are connected, “but I think [because] We’ve worked on the modern trilogy, it helps that a lot of people working on this game actually made the previous one.
“Jeff [Adams] He has a very nice way of saying it, that somehow connects the two of them, that Survivor It was Lara’s past, right?”
Siqueira said the study planned Legacy of Atlantis “like Lara’s future”, where she is in “her prime” and has learned lessons from the events of the Survivor trilogy.
“Everything you saw in the Survivor trilogy helped shape who she is,” she explained. “When she was just starting out, she was just starting her career; she didn’t have the confidence to do stunts or anything like that. Lara, in the future, will have it, so when you look at it from a narrative perspective, there’s a lot of things that we took from [the Survivor trilogy]but even on the gaming side: you’ve probably seen that the T-Rex has a lot of flavor of [those] high intensity cinematic moments [in the Survivor trilogy].
“I think there’s quite a bit we went from jumping from the Survivor trilogy in terms of gameplay, but also from the narrative side.
Adams added that they had been asked a similar question before, and if Survivor “counts” within the canonical story that Crystal Dynamics tells. He reiterated that “Survivor It’s absolutely Lara’s past, but she’s not beholden to it now.”
