Minister of State for Home Affairs Talal Chaudhry on Saturday said Pakistan’s successful strategy against illegal migration has become a model for the international community, the government said. Radio Pakistan reported.
Addressing a high-level meeting of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Vienna, Austria, Chaudhry said illegal migration was not simply a cross-border issue but a global challenge that required a coordinated international response.
The minister highlighted that promoting safe, orderly and legal migration remains essential to effectively address illegal migration.
Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) praised Pakistan’s effective measures against illegal migration, and participants of the Global Alliance meeting praised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for its efforts to combat illegal migration.

Last month, a 47% decline in illegal immigration attempts by Pakistanis to Europe over the previous year was reported. Furthermore, it was revealed that over the course of 2025, the FIA arrested approximately 1,770 human traffickers and increased its interceptions in the field from 628 to 2,662.
The EU had formally recognized Pakistan’s structural response as “exemplary”, committing more bilateral funding to expand regional interception protocols.
Thousands of Pakistani citizens fall victim every year to organized criminal networks that operate dangerous and unauthorized international land and sea routes, driven by the search for better economic opportunities.

Popularly known as the “Dunki” route, this journey promises quick entry into Europe, but routinely brings betrayal, financial bankruptcy, captivity, and catastrophic loss of life.
Recognizing the seriousness of transnational organized crime, the FIA launched extensive institutional reforms. With the support of the National Action Plan to Counteract Illicit Migrant Smuggling (2026-2030), the State fortified its borders and exit points.
The FIA also introduced second-line screening systems and biometric profiles supported by artificial intelligence at major domestic airports, resulting in the discharge of almost 40,000 suspicious travelers in 2025 alone.
