widow’s bay Star Kate O’Flynn has revealed the physical toll the show’s penultimate episode took on her.
Speaking exclusively to TechRadar, O’Flynn, who plays fan-favorite character Patricia, revealed that she lost her voice while filming the eighth episode of the Apple TV Original. The reason? All the screaming he did as part of the last entry in the series.
Full spoilers follow immediately. for widow’s bay episode 8, titled ‘Your Luggage’. Come back now if you’re not trapped.
With Tom and Wyck seemingly ending the island’s centuries-long curse in last week’s installment, the couple and Patricia quietly celebrate a job well done.
Or so they think, because ‘Your Baggage’ reveals that Richard Warren’s death has not put an end to the curse plaguing the titular city. In fact, that’s made clear through its Patricia-centric story, in which the eccentric O’Flynn individual is pursued by The Boogeyman. That’s the serial killer who murdered numerous girls on the island years before, and with whom Patricia claims to have somehow survived her terrifying experience.
Centered around a classic horror story chase, ‘Your Baggage’ sees The Boogeyman relentlessly follow Patricia, at night no less, through the settlement of the same name. And while the entire sequence didn’t take long to film, it was nonetheless a physically exhausting experience that temporarily left its mark on O’Flynn.
“It was physically exhausting,” O’Flynn said of filming the Apple TV show’s eighth episode. “I mean, it’s just me running and screaming for what seems like forever! It actually only took me two nights. [to film]”But I ended up losing my voice the first night because I wasn’t used to screaming so much, and that’s not ideal when you have another whole night of screaming and talking left.”
Despite the physical strain that this week’s episode took on O’Flynn, from my conversation with widow’s bayThe rising star who clearly enjoyed the whole experience. In fact, by acting on your own ShoutFrom a chase scene styled to Patricia’s ‘last girl’ showdown with The Boogeyman, O’Flynn had a lot of fun filming the latest installment of the much-talked-about series.
“I guess I never thought I’d be doing my own version of a Shout chase sequence,” O’Flynn told me. “It was surreal and surprising, and almost an out-of-body experience because I grew up watching those movies and other iconic horror movies.
“And then having a ‘final girl’ moment (I hadn’t heard of that until I started doing press for this show) with Patricia wielding a shotgun, it was really satisfying for Patricia specifically. She’s the one who finally found her own power and becomes that badass at the end, which was very satisfying for me.”
With only two more episodes of widow’s bay If it does air, it’s no surprise that, amid countless other conversations about the series’ plot and ongoing mysteries, fans would want to know if it will be renewed for another season.
widow’s bay Guest star Hamish Linklater didn’t reveal anything when I asked him if he knew season 2 was in the works. However, considering O’Flynn is a key cast member, surely showrunner Katie Dippold had told him privately that Apple had greenlit another 10-part installment?
“My lips are sealed,” O’Flynn responded when I pressed her on the issue. “What I will say is that, like Patricia, I would happily continue living and playing in this weird and wonderful world because I love working with everyone on the show.”
widow’s bay Episodes 1-8 are available to stream now on Apple TV, aka one of the best streaming services in the world.
