He Tomodachi Life: Living the dream The creators have revealed that there was a debate among the development team about whether they should allow Miis to fart.
That’s according to game director Ryutaro Takahashi, in the third part of a lengthy Nintendo Ask the Developer interview, where he and his fellow developers discussed the game’s Little Quirks, additional personality traits that players can give to their Miis to make them more unique.
“Speaking of little quirks, there was a lot of debate among the team about whether Mii should be able to… breathe,” Takahashi said.

“Some people found it funny, while others thought it was a little tacky. After talking about it, we ended up making it a little quirky. If that’s your kind of thing, you can give the trait to your Mii. If not, you’re under no obligation.”
Sound director Toru Minegishi said the team was “really obsessed with getting the sound perfect,” and programming director Takaomi Ueno added, “We did a lot of takes.”
“Tell me about it. I got comments like, ‘That’s too realistic for my taste,'” Minegishi said.
Takahashi went on to say that the creators also tried all kinds of visual effects for the fart quirk and for a while “the fart looked like an explosion”, which everyone laughed at.
Tomodachi Life: Living the dream is now available on Nintendo Switch and can also be played on Nintendo Switch 2.
In the same interview, Takahashi talked about the initial idea behind the game and confirmed that development began in 2017.
After speaking with franchise producer Yoshio Sakamoto, they agreed that they had “squeezed out” everything they could. Tomodachi’s life on Nintendo 3DS and decided to create a new game.
