- Valve has apparently uploaded an unboxing video of the Steam Controller
- The video clip was found via SteamDB.
- It cannot be played yet, but it indicates that its release could be imminent.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally received an update on Valve’s incoming Steam Controller, which will be included with the Steam Machine, although this is just a rumor.
As leaked by Brad Lynch on X, Valve has uploaded an unboxing video of the Steam Controller to Steam, which is visible in the Steam client backend via SteamDB. However, the video itself still cannot be played, and when trying to play, a message appears stating that “this video has not been processed for streaming.”
This revelation comes shortly after Lynch reported on public records of Valve imports, which show a “wireless PC controller” among the packages. Both clues make it seem like the Steam Controller is coming in the near future.

It’s worth noting that pricing for the controller and Steam Machine hasn’t been announced, but perhaps we’ll hear pricing for the former sooner than expected.
A separate release?
Unless Valve secretly has its Steam Machine ready for release soon, this video seems to support recent speculation that the company plans to release the Steam Controller separately (before the PC arrives).
As for the prospect of an imminent Steam Machine launch, there are no signs of this happening. And it seems like a long shot given that the RAM crisis is still heavily felt in the PC hardware market, making things difficult for Valve in terms of its console pricing (and component security).
While it may still be too early for Valve to announce the Steam Machine’s retail price, we can hope that we’ll at least get an update on the possible release window.
In any case, a separate release of the Steam Controller would be positive news for most PC gamers, even if it meant that the controller ended up arriving months before the console it was designed for.
