- A new Xbox Game Pass “choose your own” plan is reportedly in the works
- Windows Central claims that the new formula will allow users to customize the content of their membership
- Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has also teased a new partnership with Discord
Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Xbox Game Pass plan that would allow users to choose the content for their membership.
That’s according to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who says sources told him the company’s long-term goal is to make the subscription service “more flexible.”
This would align with what Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently said in a leaked memo to staff, admitting that the service was “too expensive” for gamers.

“In the short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation,” reads the message obtained by The Verge. “In the long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system, which will take time to test and learn.”
Corden says a “choose your own plan” formula is in play for Game Pass, where users will be able to decide which content packs they want on their plan.
The idea would essentially mean that players could remove Cloud Gaming from their plan to reduce the price and even eliminate content like the Fortnite Crew subscription service and add day one Xbox games instead.
Windows Central also points out the leaked Microsoft codenames “Duet” and “Triton” for Xbox Game Pass, suggesting new bundles are in the works.
Gamers reacted to the report, with some sharing their excitement about the potential change, while others suspect that Microsoft is “probably just figuring out a way to charge you a little less money for a lot less content.”
“Please. I don’t need half the things I pay for,” one user said in a Reddit thread.
Another wrote: “Great! As someone who doesn’t use these bonuses, I will benefit from these changes.”
The report also comes as Xbox’s CEO teased a new partnership between Microsoft and Discord, writing on X/Twitter that they are “teaming up again” as part of an effort to “make Game Pass more flexible for our players.”
Game Pass Ultimate currently includes one month of Discord Nitro, so Xbox may be looking to evolve the offering.
The news comes after Xbox announced a price cut on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, as well as the removal of Call of Duty titles as day one deals.
Game Pass Ultimate will now cost $22.99 instead of $29.99 per month, while PC Game Pass will go from $16.49 to $13.99 per month.
