2027 is shaping up to be a great year for tomb Raider fans, with not one but two games ready to launch: Legacy of Atlantisa reinvention of the 1996 original Tomb Raider, and the new delivery Catalyst.
Both titles will feature a new incarnation of protagonist Lara Croft, played by actress Alix Wilton Regan. The depiction aims to bridge the gap between the classic series and the grittier trilogy that began with the 2013 reboot, creating a unified version of the character going forward.
I spoke with Regan in a wide-ranging interview at Summer Game Fest 2026, where she told me how excited she is to be playing the character. “I feel incredibly lucky to be able to bring tomb Raider “In this new era,” he began. “It’s such an exciting time for the franchise when you think they have two games left and a huge television show. I feel very lucky to be a part of this.”
He described the task of becoming such an iconic character as “equal parts exhilarating and daunting”, comparing it to “being on a roller coaster that you’re very happy to be on because it’s exciting, but you’re also fucking up your pants a little bit at the same time.”
She also revealed that she thought the role was “her most important” yet: “I think taking on the role of Lara Croft in tomb Raider It would be the biggest role for any actress working in the video game space. There is no more important role. This is all. “This is the pinnacle and I am delighted to be here.”
She said she didn’t feel any pressure to try to differentiate her interpretation of the character from what fans had seen before. “I’m not worried about having to differentiate myself, because I’m very confident in the choice that we’re going back to central Lara. Classic Lara, as she’s called in canon,” he began.
“Within the context of classic Lara, my job as an actress playing her is to not leave Laras behind. I really want to understand, recognize and respect everything that has happened before in the story. tomb Raider franchise, take the most important parts, assimilate them, digest them and then update them for modern audiences.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series Tomb Raider: Catalyst will follow later that year.
