The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday, July 14, dismissed the FBI investigation into the sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham.
He referred to it as a “waste of resources,” rejecting all conspiracy theories surrounding the death of the South Carolina Republican.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: “I don’t see much evil there. I know there are all kinds of conspiracy theories and I think the FBI is wasting their time if they do that.”
The death of the 71-year-old senator occurred on Saturday night, immediately after returning from his trip to Ukraine, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Washington medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was an aortic dissection resulting from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
FBI and other government agents were seen taking photographs outside Graham’s Capitol Hill townhouse on Monday. FBI Director Kash Patel said the FBI is “assisting local authorities” in the situation but, according to law enforcement officials, there is no evidence that any crime occurred.
Trump mentioned that he reviewed all medical records and was briefed by White House doctors. He referred to Graham’s father, who died of heart problems at almost the same age as him.
“They say it’s almost undetectable. You can detect it if you have back problems. That’s a sign… He told me he had back problems, but no one realized that’s why,” Trump added.
The death of Graham, who traveled to a war zone, was followed by false speculation online, claiming that he was killed by assassination by foreign countries such as Russia, Iran, Ukraine and Israel. Some far-right people have doubts about the timing of his trip and death.
Patel’s statement about the FBI’s involvement in the investigations is fueling rumors and speculation.
