Two police officers die when a trailer collides with a mobile van on the Super Highway

On Monday, a speeding dumper truck collided with a police mobile van deployed for checking near Chakwal Pump on the Super Highway (Hyderabad-Karachi highway), killing a sub-inspector and a constable, police said. The driver has been arrested.

According to police, a 22-wheel trailer crashed into the parked police vehicle during a routine check around 5:40 a.m., killing two officers instantly. A third officer survived the incident. The impact was so strong that the police vehicle was crushed and trapped under the trailer.

Police said the driver, identified as Shahabuddin, was detained. In his initial statement, he allegedly told investigators that he fell asleep while driving, which caused the accident. Rescue 1122 and Edhi volunteers reached the spot along with ambulances after being alerted. Highway police also assisted in the recovery operation.

Heavy machinery, including a crane and lift, was used to separate the wreckage and recover the bodies from the mangled vehicle.

According to the police, Sub-Inspector Sahib Khan, Constable Parwarish and Constable Wajid were on duty in the police mobile when the trailer hit them.

Sub-inspector Sahib Khan died on the spot, while Constable Wajid was trapped in a critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries during rescue efforts. Constable Parwarish was unharmed.

The bodies of the deceased personnel were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and a private hospital near Gadap City Police Station. Both were posted at the Gadap city police station.
