- ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott calls for moving from “AI chaos to AI discipline”
- Comments come after OpenAI model infiltrated Hugging Face
- McDermott says ServiceNow tools come with a “kill switch” to prevent these types of incidents.
ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott explained why his company’s AI offerings have an edge over the competition, in part because of built-in controls that can cut off access when necessary.
talking to CNBCMcDermott said ServiceNow tools are helping companies move “from AI chaos to AI discipline.”
“We have a kill switch that stops AI agents going rogue, so those things don’t need to happen, and they wouldn’t happen when companies run ServiceNow,” McDermott said.
Don’t go rogue
McDermott’s comments come shortly after the highly publicized incident in which an OpenAI model breached the Hugging Face online repository.
The incident was part of an experiment by OpenAI as part of its testing of GPT-5.6 Sol and an “even more capable pre-release model” to see how well they would perform on the ExploitGym benchmark.
Hugging Face co-founder Thomas Wolf called the event “a wake-up call,” telling the bbc “will be one of the most common types of cyberattacks we see,” adding that most companies are unaware that “the game has changed.”
Many large software companies have experienced some concern about the growing use of AI; However, McDermott dismissed concerns that this increasing competition from AI could impact ServiceNow’s customer retention.
“If you look at the terms of our contracts, they’ve actually gotten longer,” McDermott said, noting that greater adoption of AI should increase demand for tools like those provided by ServiceNow.
“There will be more AI. There will be more incidents, and all of these things will drive more and more volume for ServiceNow,” he said.
The news came as ServiceNow reported its latest earnings, with subscription revenue of $3.877 billion in Q2 2026, representing growth of 24.5% year-over-year and 23% in constant currency.
