The rebel wolves knew it Dawnwalker’s BloodThe day and night system was going to be challenging and expensive, but I wanted to offer a “unique” experience to players.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at an event ahead of the upcoming role-playing game (RPG), director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz compared Dawnwalker’s Blood to “two different games” due to their day and night cycle.
In the game, protagonist Coen can be played as a human during the day and a vampire at night, with each version offering different abilities and ways to complete quests.
According to Tomaszkiewicz, it was inspired by the werewolf concept, but from the perspective of a vampire, and the dual gameplay loops allow for a unique structure within the open world.
“I have the idea of creating a creature that is similar to the werewolf, but from the vampire side: they are humans by day and vampires by night, and we start from this,” he said.
“We said, okay, this is a cool idea, but if you have a human in the day and a vampire in the night, you know you need to create two game loops. If you create those game loops and put them in an open-world structure, we’ve decided that we’re basically making almost two different games, and it’s crazy.”
Tomaszkiewicz added that the team knew the idea was “very expensive, but we thought it was worth it because it is unique and different.”
“It would bring something new to the market and something different to the players,” said the director. “That idea was from the beginning. When I started thinking about the protagonist, the company, the setting and the saga that we wanted to create, let’s create a protagonist that is something different.”
Dawnwalker’s Blood launches on September 3 for PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and PC.
