Weather in Lahore becomes pleasant after rain and hailstorm in several areas


Nishtar town records highest rainfall at 48.5mm, 65 LESCO feeders travel as authorities move to keep roads clear

Rain, strong winds and hailstorms hit different parts of Lahore on Saturday morning, prompting the city’s traffic, water and energy authorities to activate emergency protocols and urge citizens to exercise extreme caution in the face of adverse weather conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, hail storms were also recorded in some areas. Due to the rain, the weather became pleasant and the intensity of the heat decreased.

The meteorological department said the rain-bearing system would leave Pakistan by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to reach 37 degrees, the Meteorological Department said. He added that hot and dry weather conditions were expected to resume from Sunday.

Different amounts of rain were recorded in various parts of the city. The highest reading of 48.5 millimeters (mm) was recorded in Nishtar Town, followed by Airport at 40 mm, Johar Town at 37.5 mm, Lakshmi Chowk and Mughalpura at 30.5 mm each, Upper Mall at 29 mm, Tajpura at 27 mm, Chowk Nakhuda at 25 mm, Samanabad at 22.5 mm, Pani Wala Talab at 22 mm, Jail Road at 20.5mm, Gulberg Headquarters and Iqbal Town at 20mm each, Farrukh Abad at 19mm, Saggian at 18.5mm, Gulshan Ravi at 17mm, Defense Road at 15mm and Shadipura at 0.5mm.

As rain swept through the city and turned low-lying areas into waterlogged areas, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmed, Director General Punjab Tayyab Farid and Director General Ghufran Ahmed ordered that all major roads and underpasses be kept clear and all field teams remain active.

In areas that experienced power outages, disposal stations were ordered to run on generators. All pumps at disposal stations were ordered to remain operational with clear screens, and all city directors were instructed to maintain complete monitoring of their respective cities.

According to WASA officials, the city’s underpasses and main roads remained clear as drainage operations continued in urban areas.

Heavy rain was also reported in several areas of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region, causing failure of 65 feeders.

LESCO management appealed to consumers to cooperate in view of the adverse weather conditions. Citizens were asked to inform LESCO in case of power outage and wait for staff to arrive.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi ordered supervising officers to remain active in the field and deployed additional personnel at underpasses, where guards were helping commuters.

Citizens, especially motorcyclists, were advised to drive with caution. The CTO, appealing to citizens to travel safely, warned both residents and guards to stay away from electrical installations.

Citizens were also warned not to stand under ruined trees or large advertising billboards, given the strong winds, while Shirazi told those in need of immediate assistance and guidance to call helpline 15.
