DC fans have expressed confusion and concern about the broader plan for the DC Universe (DCU) amid reports that another villain-starring Batman movie is being prioritized over one starring The Dark Knight.

This is because, according to The Wrap, the next film that will go into production after The man of tomorrowaka last year’s sequel. The Wrap’s sources aren’t the only ones who have heard that this movie could soon be a reality. In fact, X/Twitter user and trusted industry insider Apocalyptic Horseman has also indicated that a Bane-and-Deathstroke movie is shaping up to be the Warner Bros. subsidiary’s next big-screen project.
This is not the first time rumors about such a film have circulated online. In May, Deadline claimed that the project was not only in the early stages of development, but Greg Mottola (Very badly, Pacifier) had been chosen to direct it.
If Messrs. Gunn and Safran officially greenlight a Bane and Deathstroke movie, it will be the third to feature characters associated with Batman before the Caped Crusader gets a standalone movie.
A project starring Clayface, Batman’s shape-shifting nemesis, which hits theaters in October, is the first of that trio. Meanwhile, an animated puppet film currently titled dynamic duo will feature the DCU versions of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, aka individuals who take on the mantle of Batman’s iconic sidekick, Robin, in DC Comics.

Then there’s the small matter of Paramount Skydance’s potential purchase of Warner Bros. Pictures. If this goes ahead, some think the DCU could be eliminated before it truly stabilizes, especially if clay face underperforms later this year and Lanternswhich arrives on HBO Max in August, also does not perform as well as expected.
