- Google has shared a teaser video showing a Pixel 11 series phone
- You can see it in a golden hue, with a colored light that must be the rumored ‘Pixel Glow’ feature.
- The company has also confirmed that pre-orders will open on August 12.
We’re less than a month away from the August 12 announcement of the Pixel 11 series and Google is in full preview mode. The tech giant just released a short clip showing a Pixel 11 series phone in a gold hue.
Mainly only the gold sides of the phone can be seen, but the camera block is also visible, and this houses a multi-coloured circular light. So this must be the rumored ‘Pixel Glow’ feature, which will presumably be able to light up in different colors, or different color patterns, to alert you to different types of notifications.
Perhaps, for example, a WhatsApp message would appear blue and change to pink, while a calendar event could be a single block of yellow.
An idea of nothing
It remains to be seen how customizable this will be and if it is capable of doing anything else. But at least now we have an idea of what it looks like, as it’s a bit reminiscent of Nothing’s Glyph lighting systems, just quite a bit smaller and more subtle.
That makes sense coming from Google, as its phone design is never as flashy as that of Nothing, a brand that almost makes gaming phones look visually tame.
But if you missed the notification light that phones used to have, then this might appeal as a modern update to that. And while it probably won’t be super innovative, given that it seems reminiscent of what Nothing phones have and is an evolution of an old feature, it’s still not the kind of thing you see on most mainstream phones, so it’s nice to see Google try something a little different here.
Beyond all this, the teaser page also mentions that pre-orders for the Pixel 11 series will open on August 12, presumably right after the announcement. And if you sign up for emails from that page, you’ll receive an unspecified discount on new phones, which is always appreciated, especially now that everything is getting more expensive lately.
