- YouTube TV will receive big updates in early 2026, including changes to its subscription plans and multi-view feature
- When the changes are implemented, you’ll be able to select a multi-view screen that spans sports, entertainment, news, and more.
- But the biggest change is the change in subscription tiers, which will welcome more than 10 new genre-specific packages.
There’s a lot going on behind the scenes at YouTube, and CEO Neal Mohan just unveiled a slew of new updates coming in 2026, and I have a feeling YouTube TV subscribers are going to really like this.
In his annual letter, Mohan announced two substantial changes for YouTube TV, one that builds on the evolution of its multiview feature and another that alters the scale of subscription levels. Mohan summarized these changes in a brief statement sharing the following:
“Building on our success in the living room, we are driven by the simple belief that TV should be easy. We will soon launch fully customizable multi-views and more than 10 specialized YouTube TV plans spanning sports, entertainment and news, all designed to give subscribers more control.” Let’s get into the details.
Introducing the flexibility of multiple views
Since launching its multi-view feature in 2023, it has become one of YouTube TV’s most valuable features, especially for sports fans who like to stream up to four channels at once. However, this has been limited to a select list of channels to choose from, but Google has always found ways to evolve it and its next update is its biggest yet.
Building on the customizable multi-view layout first announced in December, YouTube TV subscribers will have the option to select a multi-view screen that spans different types of channels, from sports, entertainment, news and more; The four-screen limit remains, but that’s not a huge setback.
When it launches, it will be a game-changer for households that are in heated arguments over what to watch. This will allow sports and entertainment fans to be more flexible in their viewing.
Goodbye ‘all or nothing’ subscription plans
For years, YouTube TV subscribers have complained about the structure of the subscription tiers offered. At the moment, there’s only one tier, the Basic Plan, which costs a hefty monthly fee of $82.99, and most members barely scratch the surface of the hundreds of channels on offer.
The new changes coming to YouTube TV will see the end of the Basic Plan’s singular offering and will soon introduce more than 10 genre-specific subscription tiers, allowing members to be more selective about the types of content they want to stream.
Although Google hasn’t gone into detail about what exactly the new tiers are, it will likely be divided into sports, entertainment, and other streaming packages based on specialized content. Instead of paying a huge fee for channels you know you’ll never watch, the new tiers will not only save you quite a bit each month, but will be much more tailored to your personal tastes.
We don’t know exactly when these new updates will roll out, other than that they’ll arrive in early 2026, but what we do know is that existing YouTube TV subscribers will be particularly happy to see the final part of the Basic Plan.
