- Amnezia VPN releases update on all operating systems
- Version 4.8.15 patches critical vulnerability in tun2socks module
- It also adds VLESS split tunneling and more quality of life updates.
If you’re currently evaluating your cybersecurity setup and looking for the best VPN for your daily needs, open source provider Amnezia VPN has just made a strong case to get your attention.
The company officially released version 4.8.15 of its app, bringing a wave of bug fixes, crucial security patches, and easy-to-use features for all major operating systems.
The highlight of this release is a vital security patch that fixes a major vulnerability, along with new tools designed to make the app much easier to use on iOS, Android, and Linux.
The updates are now rolling out to app stores, although the vendor notes that store moderation may cause slight delays for some users.
Critical security fixes and bug patches
The most critical element of the 4.8.15 update is the resolution of a serious flaw in the tun2socks module, a network utility used to route traffic through proxy servers.
According to Amnezia VPN, this flaw was not unique to its platform. “We also fixed a vulnerability in the tun2socks implementation that affected several major VPN providers, including ourselves; the fix is included in this release,” the company said in its blog.
If left unpatched, this vulnerability represents a serious risk to users who rely on VPNs to bypass strict digital censorship. The provider explained that “spyware on a user’s device could connect to the VPN client’s proxy without permission and read the latter’s IP address, making it easier to shut down circumvention services.”

In addition to this major security victory, Amnezia VPN implemented several OS-specific bug fixes.
Linux users will no longer experience protected connections dropping after their device wakes up from sleep mode.
Meanwhile, Android users will see an end to app crashes that occurred when importing backups on certain versions of the operating system.
For Apple users, the update resolves operational issues with Self-hosted and OpenVPN connections, as well as fixes connection recovery via the XRay protocol.
Quality of life improvements for iOS and Premium users
Beyond the security patches, the update introduces excellent quality of life improvements. The standout feature is the introduction of split tunneling for the VLESS protocol on iOS. VLESS is a stealth proxy protocol that is often used to avoid Deep packet inspection.
Split tunneling allows you to choose exactly which apps use the encrypted VPN tunnel and which connect directly to the Internet. This means you can keep your general browsing secure while allowing your banking or government apps, which often block VPN connections, to work over your regular Internet connection.
Amnezia VPN also simplified its subscription management. Previously, users had to go through customer service to manage renewals. You can now renew your Amnezia Premium subscription directly from the app or through your personal Panel on the website. The app will even remind you when your due date is approaching, allowing you to recharge with just two taps without having to reconfigure your devices.
Additionally, newcomers will now find a simplified breakdown comparing the Free and Premium plans within the “Amnezia VPN” section, making it easier to choose the right tier.
It’s clear that Amnezia VPN is working hard to perfect its user experience while strengthening its technical defenses. From removing the new AmneziaWG 2.0 protocol to patching important third-party vulnerabilities, the provider continues to adapt to growing demands for digital privacy.
