Alien: Isolation 2 Creative director Al Hope has revealed that he and the Creative Assembly team had ideas about making a sequel before finishing the first game.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2026, Hope talked about creating a sequel after 2014’s massive success. Foreigner: Isolationa game that many consider the best Foreign game and one of the best horror games ever created.
The creative director said he was “super proud of the first game and the reaction”, although he felt the team was “taking a bit of a risk” because “there was nothing like it”, but also said he had ideas for a sequel even during its development.
“I had been thinking about creating a sequel before I even finished the first game, about what it could be,” Hope said. “I guess it was when we saw the reception of that first game, and what people really did was get involved in the nature of this experience, where it’s not scripted or choreographed.”
Hope compared other survival horror titles, such as resident Evilwhere “the dog always jumped out the window at the same point”, and explained how having an experience where it was “systemic” and the systems reacting and responding to the player was the “core” of the Isolation games.
“I felt like that was our core,” he added, explaining that the idea behind the sequel was “let’s just evolve, let’s take what we love or what people love, and evolve with it,” but in ways that feel “intuitive.”
“So the first game is about being in a can in space, on the space station, being claustrophobic and trapped, and that’s cool,” Hope continued. “We love that. We felt like, what if we were now on the surface of a planet and they were hunting us on the outside? And we had that inner experience too.
“We’ve had the best of both worlds. And then we thought, okay, well, let’s tell a new story. We have this new world. Let’s tell a new story with a new protagonist, so I guess all these things seem to fit naturally. I guess that was the starting point for us.”
As Hope said, in Isolation 2players will be in a new outside environment, and the story will be a “continuation” following a new protagonist, Blake, but the core experience will still be “improvising to survive the systemic nature of the entities you encounter” and using familiar tools to do so.
“That real attention to detail in the fidelity of the world and the immersion, the atmosphere is at our core,” he said, “a lot of the same rules apply. It’s about line of sight, about not being seen, about the tools you have at hand that can deflect, interrupt, distract, so much of the game remains the same. In the future, we’ll share more interesting ways to survive and evade the creature.
“I guess we saw it as an evolution.”
Alien: Isolation 2 It doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, Series S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
