Daniil Medvedev is known for having outbursts on court, and the latest resulted in a fine for his actions at the Monte Carlo Masters last week.

The former world No. 1 men’s singles star was fined $7,000 by the ATP Tour on Monday for breaking his racquet seven times during a crushing loss to Matteo Berrettini.

Medvedev, ranked 10th in the world, was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct violation by the chair umpire during the tennis match after what happened at the start of the second set of his match against Berrettini on Wednesday.

Berrettini was dominating Medvedev to the point that he did not win a single game in the 6-0, 6-0 loss. The match lasted only 49 minutes and the Monte Carlo crowd cheered him on because they were quite angry.

“I wouldn’t expect to win like that and it doesn’t happen that often,” 2021 Wimbledon finalist Berrettini said after what is considered a double defeat for Medvedev. “It was definitely one of the best performances of my life.”

The 30-year-old hit the net with a forehand and fell behind 2-0 in the second set after quickly losing the first. He couldn’t contain his anger with his game, as he slammed his racket near the baseline and then proceeded to throw it towards the end of the court.

When Medvedev approached to pick up the racket, he decided that his equipment was not enough. He continued to crush it until it was unrecognizable from its original shape.

Medvedev dropped his racket as the crowd roared sarcastic cheers and the match continued.

It’s not the best look to be known for his on-court outbursts, but Medvedev’s temperament has shown in Grand Slams and ATP Tour matches.

Just last year, he received much larger fines for his actions at the Australian Open and the US Open, receiving fines of $76,000 and $42,500, respectively, for what occurred on the world stage.
