Diamondbacks vs. Pick Brewers: why we bet the over is the right move

One of my favorite things about sports betting is that we can do it every day. The NBA and NHL typically give us another six games a day, and soccer dominates our weekends. In baseball, we have about 15 games to choose from over 150 days a year. There is always something to look forward to on the sports calendar. I picked tonight’s game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Milwaukee Brewers for us to enjoy.

The Diamondbacks are off to a decent start with a 15-12 record on the season. On the road, they have been exactly average, going 6-6 at the beginning of the year. For the most part, Arizona has benefited from strong offensive production. I don’t know if I would have expected that, considering they traded Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez last season.

They didn’t really do anything to replace those guys in the offseason either. However, the team is hitting .255 this year, which ranks sixth in the league. His 27 home runs are in the bottom half of the league, but they rank 11th in runs scored.

Merrill Kelly is a starter for the Diamondbacks. He was another player who was traded out of Arizona last season, but re-signed in the offseason. It has not been a very positive return to the team. In two starts, he is 1-1 with a 9.31 ERA and 2.28 WHIP. He recorded a win in his first outing, working 5.1 innings against the Orioles, but still allowed five hits, two earned runs and four walks. He has been solid against the Brewers, limiting them to just nine hits in 51 at-bats.

The Brewers have been one of the best teams and franchises for years, but maybe this is a year they take a step back. They are 14-13 on the season and 8-7 overall at home. Seeing Milwaukee get off to a slow start is a bit surprising because they have overcome almost everything that has been thrown their way in recent years. As a team, they hit only .231, but have the same runs scored as the Diamondbacks. They have even fewer home runs, so maybe it’s just a matter of time before the power catches up to them?

Maybe this is just a bad streak; They are 1-4 in their last five games and 6-11 in their last 17 games. Tonight they send Chad Patrick to the mound. He has had a pretty strong start to the year, but he is coming off his worst start. He also hasn’t delved too deeply into many games.

He has completed five innings only twice in his five starts. Overall, he has allowed six earned runs in 23 innings, with a 2.35 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. There haven’t been many at-bats against him by Diamondbacks hitters, but they are 4-for-11 against him.

We have two guys on the mound tonight that are allowing quite a few hits early in the season. Combined, they have allowed 36 hits in 32.2 innings. There is a lot of traffic on the base routes. Both teams continue to score runs and neither team really relies on home runs to get the runs. I think that’s usually a good reason to back off. In this one, I will take charge of the 8+ races.

I will say that both starters are capable of scoring zeros, but given their current form, I’m not loving it. I think the Brewers win this game too. Officially, I’ll play the ending.
