RAWALPINDI:
The National Highway and Highway Police has banned entry of vehicles carrying animals on highways during Eidul Azha.
According to officials, overloaded, inadequate and poorly loaded vehicles carrying animals often cause traffic accidents and congestion.
These vehicles will therefore be diverted to alternative routes rather than being allowed to travel on highways. Authorities said that in the past, vehicles transporting animals have been involved in several dangerous accidents, resulting in significant financial losses and casualties.
To ensure effective implementation, the police have asked the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police departments to set up check posts at highway entrances and near livestock markets.
Officials claimed that the measure was taken to ensure the safety of commuters traveling on highways during the Eid season. As Eidul Azha approaches, people rush to livestock markets to buy animals for sacrifice which are transported to their residences in vans and mini-trucks.
