Home Secretary says Pakistan welcomes foreign investment in meeting with UK counterpart

Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday said the government would welcome foreign investment and ensure all possible facilities for investors during a meeting with British House of Lords member Lord Zamir Choudrey, the state government. Pakistan Television (PTV) reported.

During the meeting, Naqvi said that Pakistan offered great investment opportunities and the country would welcome investors, adding that all possible facilities would be provided to the investors.

He said Pakistan’s joint efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region were continuing. “God willing, our efforts will also yield positive results this time,” Naqvi said.

Choudrey praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the region. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had made commendable efforts for regional stability.

He further said that the government’s positive policies were creating greater opportunities for investment in Pakistan.

In early July, Naqvi and China’s Minister of State for Public Security and head of the Special Services Bureau Ling Zhifeng reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The two ministers agreed to expand cooperation on internal security, emphasizing the need for closer collaboration on border management, illegal immigration and anti-narcotics efforts.

CPEC body to buy bulletproof car

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) secretariat decided to purchase a bulletproof vehicle at a cost of Rs 95 million to provide security to Chinese citizens as it said the Cabinet Division could not meet their pressing needs, resulting in cancellation of important official engagements.

The new 3,500cc Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle will join a suite of such vehicles and at least two helicopters that various government departments have purchased or are in the process of purchasing for the protection of Chinese citizens who are vulnerable to attacks. Due to the high risks, Chinese citizens are not allowed to travel in vehicles that are not bulletproof.

The bulletproof vehicle is purchased only for the safety of Chinese citizens, whose protection is the primary responsibility of the Pakistani government, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said.
