A real clash of styles is expected at Hill Dickinson Stadium when Fiji and England meet on matchday two of the 2026 Nations Championship, with both teams reeling from heartbreaking defeats.
England once again relied heavily on their kicking game, to no avail, in a 45-21 loss to South Africa last weekend. The final score flattered Steve Borthwick’s men, who trailed 17-0 within minutes of kick-off and finished the match with 13 men. With 58 meters gained on 21 carries, Ben Earl was the team’s only bright spark.
They are on an abject five-game losing streak and caught in a trap created by the RFU itself. England have consistently underperformed during Borthwick’s almost four-year reign, yet he has clung on and results have fallen off a cliff just as the Rugby World Cup appeared on the horizon. He has made just two changes for Saturday’s clash, bringing in Henry Slade for the injured Cadan Murley and Guy Pepper for Tom Curry.
The FRU chairman lashed out at Fiji after their disappointing 24-39 defeat to Wales, and Mick Byrne responded by making radical changes for the Round 2 clash. Enter Caleb Muntz, the Provence flyhalf who engineered the Flying Fijians’ famous 30-22 victory over England three years ago. Semi Radradra’s injury, however, is a hard blow.
Unlike Saturday’s opponents, Fiji carried the ball the most as a team last weekend and broke 39 tackles, of which the impressive Jiuta Wainiqolo accounted for 17. However, their discipline let them down and they didn’t score as many points as they should have.
