UFC great Jim Miller made an emotional return to the octagon on Saturday night, where he was able to earn a submission victory over Jared Gordon.

Last year, Miller’s son Wyatt was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer, known as rhabdomyosarcoma, according to the New York Post. He hadn’t fought in the UFC in over a year and was by his 14-year-old son’s side during the fight. Wyatt recovered and Miller paid tribute to him after the victory.

“My son went through some really tough times the last few months,” he said at UFC 328, which took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. “He ended up kicking the cancer out and today he feels fine.

“We’re cancer-free. And one of the things I told him when he was dealing with it when he was first diagnosed is that Miller has been called a lot of nicknames over the years, but fragile has never been one of them.”

Miller won the fight in front of his home state fans. Miller was born in Sparta, located on the edge of Lake Mohawk and about 40 miles from where UFC 328 took place.

The lightweight fight ended in the first round when Miller choked Gordon with the guillotine. Gordon tried to take him down after Miller tried to kick him. However, Gordon kept his head down and that allowed Miller to wrap his arms around his opponent to choke him.

Miller has 28 UFC wins, the most of any competitor in company history.
