- Another LG OLED user reports a power cycling issue caused by bright flashes
- Reddit user u/RandomGamer414 reported the issue with his LG G5 on the r/LGOLED subreddit
- Other users report similar problems with different LG OLED TVs, caused by other games and streaming
More and more LG OLED users are experiencing power cycling issues caused by bright flashes on the screen, and the models and causes are varied.
Last week, we reported on a Resident Evil Requiem player’s unfortunate LG OLED that shut down when the titular gun was fired, with the bright flash from the gun apparently causing a power cycling issue on his LG C1. Reddit user u/yorgo332 reported this issue on the r/LGOLED subreddit.
Well, now another Reddit user is experiencing a similar problem, only this time it’s with an LG G5, the brand’s flagship and one of the best OLED TVs of last year. Check out user u/RandomGamer414’s post below:

LG G5 OLED power cycle, off/on with quick brightness change. Please see below if you have a similar issue and report it from r/LGOLED.
Once again, it’s a bright flash of a weapon (this time in the game Cronus: The New Dawn) which is causing this user’s LG G5 to turn off and on again.
Exploring the Reddit thread further, it appears that it’s not just a wide variety of games that are causing the problem, but Halo 4, Rocket League, The Division 2 and Borderlands 3 all named, but some users experienced it watching content through streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu. However, most of the reported problems come from video games with large flashes due to explosions.
Users are also reporting the issue on several different models, starting with the LG C9 (first released in 2019) and as recently as the LG G5 (which is the model u/RandomGamer414 is using in the post above). The CX (2020) and B4 (2024) are among some of the other models named.
It’s worth noting that there are many other LG OLED users, including G5 owners, who say they’ve never experienced this issue before. Here at TechRadar we regularly use the G5 as our reference TV for testing, comparisons and our Blu-ray Bounty feature and have never experienced this problem. We also have an LG C5 and an LG B5 in our test lab and again we have not experienced this issue before with either of them.
Again, it’s not entirely clear what is causing the problem, whether it’s a fault in the power unit or a problem with the panels themselves.
Some users suggest that a new HDMI cable could fix the problem or adjust the TV’s brightness to dim the flash and prevent it from rebooting, but there seems to be no obvious solution yet.
We’ve reached out to LG for comment and we’ll be sure to update this article if we hear back.
