- The Fitbit Air receives its first software update
- Should fix issues with automatic training detection.
- An old Fitbit app workaround is disappearing
The first software update for Fitbit Air is rolling out now, and the hope is that it will fix a particular issue for users, but there’s also bad news for those still using the old Fitbit app instead of the Google Health replacement.
First of all, the update is rolling out now, as reported by 9to5Google, although you may not see it right away – look for a notification within the Google Health app indicating that an update is ready. According to Google, it contains “bug fixes and general improvements.”
There’s a bit more detail in a Google Health support forum post from last month, suggesting there are fixes for exercise tracking, split runs, workout exports, multiple device support, and how the device handles loss of connectivity when tracking.
As noted by Android Authority, one of the most commonly reported issues with the Fitbit Air has been inaccurate labeling of workouts that are automatically detected (labeling runs as general workouts, for example) and this issue now appears to have been resolved.
No more Fitbit app workarounds
Google will end support for the Fitbit app on July 15, 2026 from r/fitbit
While a software update is positive news for Fitbit Air owners, those who have been stuck with the old Fitbit app on their phones won’t be happy that Google has closed a workaround to avoid upgrading to Google Health.
As Gadgets & Wearables explains, some users have been downloading older versions of the Fitbit app – these older versions are not automatically replaced by Google Health, so it’s a way to stick with the app’s old interface and design.
However, starting July 15, these older versions of the Fitbit app will no longer work. Users will have no choice but to switch to Google Health, which moves many of the key elements on the screen and introduces a new AI trainer.
Fitbit fans have been complaining loudly about the changes coming to the Google Health app, and many aren’t happy about being forced to update: “I guess I’m going to have to find an alternative to the AI bug,” writes one Redditor.
