- Deezer launches AI music detector
- Scan your playlists to see how much of your music is AI
- It’s free and works on any streamer, not just Deezer.
The annual Spotify Unwrapped has proven to be a masterclass in free marketing, with music lovers around the world posting on social media about how much they use Spotify.
Now, in an iconic “hold my beer” move, Deezer just dropped something to give you a stat you’ll actually want to brag about.
The streaming service has introduced an online music detector, which it calls… the AI Music Detector (no fancy names here). It’s an online site that can connect to the streaming service of your choice to quickly scan all your playlists and tell you how many of your tracks are AI-generated. It literally takes about a minute to do this, although in TechRadar testing, Apple Music libraries took the longest.
Naturally, the goal is to prove that you’re not listening to any AI nonsense, or, if you receive a diagnosis of shock, to find out where these “songs” are so you can treat the offending condition. Deezer makes no secret of the fact that it would be happy if you transferred all those playlists after scanning and thus registered for its service, and those who avoid AI might find that ideal, since Deezer labels AI music (so you know which 1% is offensive, say).
To determine if this AI music detector is any good and hopefully show off my clean, AI-free record, I launched the tool and linked it to my Spotify account.
Living in a prayer
I was already pretty sure I don’t listen to AI music (that would be pretty difficult when 90% of your music taste is from the 2000s), but as an outspoken anti-AI, it’s worth checking.
It was very quick to pair Deezer’s Free AI music checker with my Spotify account, and it took less than a minute to review my libraries. Colleagues who have checked through other streaming services, particularly Apple Music, report longer wait times (and even a crash before it worked), but for Spotify and Tidal it was simple.
The Deezer tool quickly returned the score I expected: 0% AI. Nice. It even allowed me to save a small badge to post on social media.
Some people on the TR team received a 1% AI score, much to their chagrin, and that raised some questions. First: what song? They weren’t told, so removing that errant thread of garbage was much more difficult than it could be if it were simply revealed. Perhaps the only way to find out is to transfer your playlist to Deezer, something the tool is very willing to help you with…
Secondly, where was this AI clue found? It’s not 100% clear, but chances are the Deezer tool will only check your custom “static” playlists, rather than algorithmically generated ones that you have no control over (or even other people’s ones that you’ve saved).
While it will still leave some users with as many questions as answers (is that 1% lurking somewhere in your hyperpop playlist?) it’s great to see Deezer press ahead in its war on AI-generated music.

The best music players for all budgets.
